Hydration App

Background

As an avid gym-goer and resident of sunny San Diego, keeping hydrated is a daily endeavor. Studies for the past 20 years have highlighted how important adequate water intake is and how detrimental it is to both physical and mental performance when you're even slightly dehydrated.

This is a fairly common problem and studies show that many people are dehydrated all day long. Thus, there are tons of water tracking apps out there already. Even apps that I frequently use in my day to day life, such as MyFitnessPal and Fitbit, have built in water intake loggers. However, there is definitely something left to be desired from all of these solutions.
I decided to design my own solution to the water tracking problem that focused on several key areas: Increasing daily water consumption in general, reaching your water consumption goal, and how many days in a row you've reached your goal. Having the ability to set your consumption goal allows a level of personalization that many other apps don't do very well. Fine-tuning your hydration needs based upon your level of activity and location is extremely important.

Furthermore, reaching your water consumption goal for the day is the most important thing, so I tried to highlight this as the main focus of the application. Showing people the trends of their behavior can do a lot in helping them be more mindful and can be the catalyst that actually changes how people behave. Being able to see that you've reached your intake goal for the past 4 days in a row will have an effect on whether or not you reach your goal going forward.
